[He was about twenty minutes out, taking the direct route back rather than a more circular one he usually employs as a patrol of sorts to check in. Stomping his boots off and leaving them by the door with his sheathed sword and shield because Rainier is not a goddamn forest hobo no matter what Dorian says, he goes in to look and see if the Inquisitor is in yet.]

[ She is in, having returned moments earlier. Cecily appears from the hall and steps into the living room, device in one hand, sheets of papers in another. Even without their designated war table, she often takes over the one in the dining room for purposes similar to theirs, today. ]

Hope will revive one of the three whether we cast our votes or not. [ Hello to you, too, Inquisitor. ] He doesn't seem to have any interest in what we think or do beyond our giving him power; I'm surprised he asked our opinions at all, rather than just summoning the god who'd most benefit his cause.

[ Which would be Delight, she thinks, frowning over her notes. ]

[Rainier inclines his head as a greeting before going to join her. Straight to business, he appreciates that.]

It makes me wonder if his 'cause' is more complex than he lets on.

[Rainier isn't one for communicating with either self-styled gods, but he still keeps reading whatever they're willing to announce publicly.]

Or perhaps he simply finds joy in giving us enough rope to hang ourselves with. We choose the seemingly safe option and get almost nothing in return, [Sorry, he loves alcohol as much as the next person, but Rainier seems the odd man out for having arrived with his weapons and an armory would be of great use. Not to mention a place for healers - he knows there are others getting together what they can, but to have one created, fully stocked? It would go a long way.] or chose the more dangerous road for potentially greater reward.

We've also got no guarantee that this 'Delight' is kind - Hope might be providing what we need to survive but he seems a brusque fellow at best. For all we know she'd take her delight in putting us through the wringer even more.

I've no doubt that it is. They seem straightforward, but there's no chance they're being entirely forthright with us about their intentions. I don't think they have any idea what the other is planning, either.

[ They bicker enough that it's likely the animosity is true; after all, when have the ideas of hope and fear ever really worked in tandem? ]

... Though, we should be wary that they could be working together. Anything is possible, here.

[ Just look at the technology.

Cecily nods at Rainier's musing, considering it. ]

I think, if we can take Hope at his word, that our best option is to secure an armory. Even if the god is "Rage," dangerous as it sounds, we need that boon. Too many of these power have no defense. [ ... ] Though... there are some who offered to Fear's alter. To Hope's, too, and... should they be given free reign of the lot of swords and Maker-knows-what-else?

[Rainier gave a thoughtful hum at her question, answering with a slow and deliberate care.]

I think, right now, we can't afford to pass judgement on those who might have just been hedging their bets. For all we know they were also trying to secure a boon for the good of their companions.

[And Rainier, as much as he's wary of trying to curry favor with either so called 'god', has long been in a spot of not really being in any place to judge others at all.]

I know Cullen was upset that he was brought here without his weapons. Rage it is. We fought plenty of rage demons in the past.

That's fair enough. [ She nods at him, grateful for the honest reply, the way he takes the time to be impartial, at the moment, despite her mistrust of the others. ] I suppose they might be saying the same of us.

[ Why wouldn't they be? Those who have people they trust in the caves, anyway. ]

A dagger and a dog aren't so useful in the long run. [ She smiles thinly. ] He'll be glad for the swords.

[Rainier smiles as well, though it can be hard to tell through all that beard. He does give a little nod just the same.]

Hey, the mabari's worth more than an armory.

I did see him trying to train it to fetch. It'll make a worthy warrior if our enemies are somehow impacted by retrieving sticks.

[ OKAY, she actually does know the value of the war hounds, but she also likes to tease all of her Ferelden allies for their questionable love for the dogs. ]

[Rainier just chuckles and shakes his head. He knows the Inquisitor is aware and he's hardly Ferelden, himself. He can take the joke.]

Rage it is, then. I'll make sure to cast my vote, for whatever it's worth.

You don't think Dorian will go for the one with the bar, do you? I think we have enough here to keep us all happy, if the other night was any indication.

She doesn't really think he'd vote for Delight, but... well, maybe a little part of her does. It sounds nicer, in theory, but the result is much less useful in her opinion. She thinks she can count on Cullen to call for Rage, given how badly he's wanted a sword since his arrival and found none. ]

I think for all his pomp and frivolousness, Dorian will make a wiser choice than that.

[But, you know, this is said with the utmost confidence. Don't you dare tell him that Rainier thinks he's not a short sighted pompous dumb ass.]

Oh, I was only teasing. [ mostly ] He knows as well as we do that there'll need to be more weapons, or...

[ Or, there will be more trouble. ]

I only worry what 'Rage' will do, after the revival. It isn't as if any of them are our allies.

In that case I think it all the more important to revive Rage compared to the others - it's a straightforward feeling. A straightforward thing to fight. Confusion or - Maker help us - Delight - ... how would one fight those? The kind of demons that get into your mind.

[That does make him wonder. Would Delight be like a desire demon? Hope and Fear are uniquely different than the spirits and demons back in Thedas, but the comparison is a familiar one so those are the boxes Rainier is sorting them into for now.]

Rage may be just as unpleasant. [ She says lightly, looking up in a final sort of way from the table and notes. ] We've little to celebrate, here, at least amongst what they give us.

[ There's a dry chuckle before she looks up at him, admitting a small, but grateful smile. ]

Thank you, Thom. I can always use advice more sound than my own.

[Thom gives Cecily a wry chuckle of his own and a bit of a rueful shake of his head.]

Well, I'm not sure about that, but I suppose we'll have to make do.

[Everything settled, it seems as good a time as any for him to take his leave.]
